If an insurance issue remains unresolved after your Corpus Christi crash, a clear written complaint can help you explain what happened and what response you need. Before submitting one, identify the company involved, the specific disagreement and the records that support your account.
Start with a specific request to the insurer
The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) recommends first discussing the issue with the company or agent. For an estimate disagreement, it suggests explaining what was overlooked and sending supporting information, such as a repair-shop estimate.
For your own follow-up, replace a broad statement such as “my claim is being handled badly” with a concrete question: “I sent the revised estimate on [date]. Please confirm whether you received it and explain which items remain under review.” Use dates you can verify and keep the response.

Check whether TDI can address the issue
TDI handles complaints involving insurers, agents and adjusters it regulates. Its auto-complaint guide says it cannot decide crash fault or require payment unless nonpayment violates law or policy terms. It also warns that it generally cannot help when another driver’s insurer refuses liability. Body-shop complaints belong with the appropriate licensing or enforcement agency.

Distinguish your own insurer from the other driver’s company in the first paragraph of your notes. If you are unsure which process fits, ask TDI before assuming a complaint will resolve a fault dispute.
Build a short timeline and a focused document set
Use one entry for each important event: date, what happened, who was involved and the document that supports it. Separate the date you sent something from the date the company acknowledged receiving it. If you only remember an approximate date, label it that way.
As a practical preparation checklist, gather:
• The insurer’s name, claim number and policy number if the complaint concerns your own policy.
• The written decision, payment explanation or message you want clarified.
• Relevant estimates, invoices, photographs or other records tied to that specific issue.
• Your requests for an explanation and the responses you received.
• A brief statement of what you are asking the company to explain, correct or reconsider.
Label files so their purpose is clear, such as “revised-estimate-date” or “insurer-response-date.” Keep originals and use copies for submission. Review the current portal instructions before uploading; avoid sending an unrelated collection simply because it is in your accident folder.
Use the official complaint resources
TDI’s current help page links to its auto-insurance guidance and Consumer Complaint Portal. It also lists the Help Line, 800-252-3439, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central time. For an existing complaint, its instructions direct users to log into their portal account to add documents.

Before submitting, compare your summary with the actual records. Check names, dates, amounts and quoted language. TDI specifically cautions users to verify AI-generated complaint information; do not include a legal citation or factual assertion you have not confirmed.
Keep the response with your claim records
TDI says it will request the company’s response and review what that response means for the complaint. Save the complaint confirmation, reference number and later correspondence together. Note which questions were answered and which remain unresolved.
